5 reasons to print your Family photos.

It's been a 6th or 7th (who still counts at this point?) week of self-isolation. I had my phone in my hands and after checking all the emails and social media apps, I made a deep dive into my camera roll. Oh, what a place of wonder! 16,231 photos! Just think about this number! I found the photos from my trip to Alaska from a couple of years ago. And my heart melted. I instantly transported to a place of nature that I miss so much during this quarantine. Then I started to think about how many times I promised myself to start printing my photos, from all the trips I've taken, my work, and the importance of printing your priceless memories in general.

So here we are! I came up with at least 5 reasons why you should start doing it immediately.

Well, ok, after the world comes back to normal at least.

1. The photos you print became your life memories.

Chances are good you will remember a photo you printed 20 years ago, but you probably won't remember any of the digital images you snapped last year or even last months. How many photos are on your camera roll? Let's face it, most of you are like me with trillions of digital photos stored on your phone that drag pretty miserable live there while waiting to be deleted one day to free up some space. Printed photos of yours go against swiping from photo to photo on your phone. It requires you to sit for a minute and focus on just one image.

2. Technology can fail.

Yes, my dear friends. Technology can fail and computers can crash. Does this surprise you? That's why I have a couple of different back up external drives to store all the photos from the previous portrait sessions. Because you never know what may happen. Technology seems to offer this idea of security of permanent preservation. But they may change and the devices we use may get outdated. And while technology may fail us, it seems that paper...doesn't. And I find it weirdly satisfying.

3. You print only the best photos.

The photos you print are a selection of your best photos. Printing your photos will force you to look at them, select them and in the process, curate your collection. With your best photos printed, you'll never have to worry about the digital clutter again.

4. A printed photograph is a thousand times more precious than pixels on a screen.

Because you can touch it because it's a finalized piece of art because it is why we take photos in the first place. Being able to hang your photos, tape them up, or frame them makes the memory much more vivid and not forgotten.

5. We do it for the kids.

If you don't print your photos, there is no way others can appreciate them or reclaim their memories in the future. I have only one printed photo of myself as a baby. And this photo is the most precious heirloom I have.

In conclusion, I want to add that I think there is something special about printing photos. It feels like the last step to the process, and when I hold a printed photo, I feel like I am holding something that feels timeless and complete.

P.S. With booking your session with me, you always have an option to print the best memories of our portrait shoot together through the professional photo lab I work with.
